Dear friends,

The Association of the Glass and Ceramic Industry of the Czech Republic submits the "Annual Report - Glass and Ceramic Industry of the Czech Republic - 2006", where we would like to inform the public about the main economic indices of the glass and ceramic industry of the Czech Republic in 2006, and also about trends in its development in the period from 2001 till 2006. The Report is added with chapters dealing with the activities of the Association and with the influence of the glass and ceramic industry to environment.

Even in 2006 the glass and ceramic industry is still a significantly export oriented branch with an important and permanent contribution to active balance of foreign trade of the processing industry in amount of 30.627 bill. CZK. For keeping this position a permanent activity and innovation policy in production and trade is necessary. The development in individual branches of the glass and ceramic industry shows that products with the high added value won recognition more and more significantly. For the glass and ceramic industry follows not only a necessity to orientate to such products but also a flexibility and speed of our manager decisions with regard to permanently proceeding changes of conditions on market, where on one side new European regulations and directives appear, the energy prices increase, and on the other side the demand dramatically changes due to boom in the building industry or to Asian imports.

I believe you will find interesting and usable information in our Annual Report.

Petr Mazzolini
