Dear friends,

The Association of the Glass and Ceramic Industry of the Czech Republic submits the

"Annual Report - Glass and Ceramic Industry of the Czech Republic - 2004",

where we would like to inform the public about the main economic indices of the glass and ceramic industry of the Czech Republic in 2004, and also about trends in its development in the period from 1997 till 2004.

The glass and ceramic industry reached the inter-year 12.4 % growth of its productivity of labour (net sale per an employee) in 2004. The revival of demand on foreign markets influenced the dynamics of export growth, which increased by 11.5 %. Even in 2004 the glass and ceramic industry defended its position of a significantly export oriented branch with a significant and permanent contribution to active balance of foreign trade of the processing industry in amount of 28.482 bill. CZK.

In 2004 the Czech Republic entered the European Union. The presumption that the Czech glass and ceramic industry faced up with full participation in the high competitive economic background has been confirmed.

The development in individual groups of the glass and ceramic industry shows, however a necessity to orientate to the production with the high added value, to the production innovation and also to manager and trade strategy.

I believe, that you will find interesting and usable information in our Annual Report.
