The Association of the Glass and Ceramic Industry of the Czech Republic in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Trade submit the
"Annual Report - Glass and Ceramic Industry of the Czech Republic - 2002".
In the submitted Annual Report we would like to inform the public with economic development of the glass and ceramic industry in the Czech Republic in 2002, its development from 1997, and also with factors and connection, where it is supposed to have stronger influence on the development of the Czech glass and ceramic industry. Further on, we give some data enabling comparison of the glass industry in the Czech Republic and European Union and its selected members. Not least we inform about the activities of the Association of the Glass and Ceramic Industry of the Czech Republic.
Results reached in 2002 in comparison with previous two or three years, from a point of view of the amount of reached revenues and profits, are at a standstill. It is caused by a noticeable stagnation of demand on important European industrial markets, decrease of demands on consumers markets in Europe and in the USA, and escalation of competition with exporters of glass and ceramics from so far untraditional countries. An important influence has also a permanent strong CZK exchange rate.
Within the processing industry of the Czech Republic the glass and ceramic industry keeps the position of a long-term successful industry from the point of view of the active balance of foreign trade.
In prospects, signals of further lasting of unfavourable, stagnant economic environment appear. For their overcoming and further development it will be necessary to search, besides up to now successful procedures also new ways for increasing the effectivity and productivity. Extremely important will be the trade assertion of innovative products of glass and ceramics.
I believe, that you will find a number of interesting and useful information about the glass and ceramic industry in this Annual Report.
